This building was designed by acclaimed Boston architect Maryann Thompson, for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and built by Stutman Contracting under the guidance of the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, whose mission is to work with state agencies to create and manage forward-thinking, sustainable buildings to meet the needs of the Commonwealth’s citizens.

Timber-frame construction and natural wood finishes throughout let this modern building disappear into the woods.  Beautiful long lines and geometry invite it to speak with its famous neighbors. The Gropius House is just around the corner.

In these Woods Henry David Thoreau built his cabin and lived there in solitude for two years.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life.  And see if I could not learn what it had to teach and not, when I die, discover that I had not lived.”  - Henry David Thoreau
